Madonna delle Laste Sanctuary

The Madonna delle Laste sanctuary, that rises on the hill of Trento, was built to guard a worshipped sixth century fresco showing the Madonna, that was in a nearby capital until the beginning of the seventeenth century. According to popular legend the sacred image was transported by forty men to the new church. A few years later the Carmelitani Scalzi monastery was annexed and remained open until 1810. Later used for various other activities (midwifery, housing, army barracks…) the convent was restored at the end of the fifties and inaugurated on 30th September 1962.

The sanctuary is built in baroque style and is preceded by an atrium with Doric columns. The interior hosts a series of seventeenth century marble altars, a crucifix with Christ dating back to the same period and the gigantography of a seventeenth century altar piece by Andrea Pozzo showing the "Sacred Family at rest during their flight Egypt", originally kept in the sanctuary and later moved to another church.
