Church of the Annunciation

The Church of the Annunciation, in baroque style, was built between 1713 and 1715 based on a design by Antonio Brusinelli. Unique for its extraordinary cleanliness both in detail and overall proportions; it has a central theme. The interior is rich with marble in the columns and the floor as in the three eighteenth century altars, work of Cristoforo and Teodoro Benedetti, dedicated to the annunciation, Saint Joseph and Saint Anthony of Padua.

The altar pieces of the Annunciation (1857) and of the Sacred Family (18th century) are worth noting. The dome is octagonal and has a lamp. The facade distinguishes itself by its two rows of Corinthian pilasters, an elegant portal surmounted by a medallion showing the Eternal father and the Holy Spirit and two lateral niches portraying the Annunciation and containing respectively the Archangel Gabriel and the Madonna.

The church was hit by a bomb on 13th May 1944 later restored it reopened for worship on 19th March 1954.
